Ignatius Donnely - A rare case...

Good evening cloud-walkers and seekers of truth! Glad to be back again.., I really, really missed research and writing but I'm here to heal myself again, hopefully you too!

There's a number of historical figures I'm researching about at the moment and I really don't know why I'd choose this one today. Maybe because there's new data on the news and current debate about the matter of Atlantis, maybe because it was his time to be mentioned and known. So I'll talk about Ignatius Donnely.., not just another 'historical figure' but a person, a researcher, a truth seeker and a dreamer as we're all! There's much effort lately to slander his name, I believe because some of his ideas and research were close to the truth. That's always the case when someone is defamed, right? There must be something true in all of this.

Let's see who this weird guy was. The politician and the scientist.

He was an American politician, writer, researcher and scientist in medicine, born in 1831 of Irish immigrants. He wanted to become a lawyer and was a clerk under Benjamin Brewster, who was later the Attorney General of the United States. In 1855 he married Katherine McCaffrey and they had 3 children. He started getting interested in politics and he wrote campaign speeches. He was an idealist in his political views and fought for the public common good.

"If not for these unorthodox writings, Donnelly would probably be best known for his energetic efforts on behalf of late-19th-century agrarian and labor movements." (The Nation)

He was radical in his views, and he managed to become a Congressman for Minnesota, state Senator and state representative. He was one of the earliest supporters of the women's suffrage, about the womens right to voting. He was against political corruption and tried to raise the awareness on peoples' rights.

In 1882 he published "Atlantis: The Antediluvian World", which is today, one of the most debatable works in the circles of researchers, historians, conspiracy theorists (I really don't know why they're still called theorists, when all else are being proven - people are still blind or don't want their everyday life-routine to be bothered). He based his work in Plato's 'Timaeus and Critias' and other thorough evidence from different sciences such as archaeology and natural sciences. Atlantis was an advanced civilization that was destroyed by a great flood such as the one narrated in the Bible and mentioned by all major great civilizations of the past. There's a movement to debunk his work by calling him a pseudo-scientist and in the same time a huge amount of scientists and writers who claim that his research was accurate and he was a man of unquestionable stature. You can't ignore a person's quality or specialisation and accept another. Either you take it all seriously or debunk him in general. Same thing happened to 'armies' of scientists and writers since the ancient times, such as Plato and Aristotle. Schools are teaching a small amount of their known works and discard others as 'fairytales'. Same thing happened to Mr. Donnely for reasons easily you can comprehend yourselves. Together with Donnely, other historical non-questionable figures are been slandered such as Plato, Aristotle and other major historians and scientists beyond question, who managed to change our world. It's a new thing, but, whoever loves the truth, goes deeper in research and doesn't give credit to new age internet goblins. Well now, more about "Atlantis: The Antediluvian World". Donnely provided charts and maps in this work. His talent in writing was praised by not just a few, but by a majority of critics, writers and scientists. He believed that what is narrated in 'Timaeus and Critias', is simply historical facts and it all explains the mysteries of this world, everything about the great floods, amazing civilizations of the past and even the Pyramids. His political meaning in his work, was that he believed human inequalities could be left behind if knowledge was more widely spread and education given freely to people. All of Donnely's works can be easily found in libraries, bookstores and internet stores as well. I strongly recommend them. You will be easily led to read the Great Ones as well if you want to look out for the truth. The books will always lead your way.

In 1883, following the success of "Atlantis" he published "Ragnarok: The Age of fire and Gravel". He uses the same method of writing, stating that a major comet hit the Earth about 12.000 years ago which led to the collapse of great civilizations of this era and the loss of their knowledge and advanced technology. Again, using finds on archaeological dig sites, ancient maps and references he poses strong questions.

In 1888 he publishes "The Great Cryptogram- Francis Bacon's cipher in the so-called Shakespeare plays". A controversial work, which gave him fame in other circles such as literary and philological as well as historian. In "The Great Cryptogram", Donnely states that the works of William Shakespeare are written by no other than our beloved Francis Bacon. It was a popular idea back in the late 19th century especially in the United States. Many other historians and very famous writers believed and still believe the same concept, that Shakespeare was uneducated and possibly unable even to write.

Donnely's work "Ceasar's Column: A story of the Twentieth century", published in 1890 under a nickname. It can be categorised as a utopian or dystopian novel, a post-apocalyptic fiction as well as science-fiction and romance. It was a huge success, selling more than 60 thousand copies when it was released and more than 250.000 up till now. The plot is about a trip to New York City in 1988 by a visitor from the Swiss colony of Uganda. The great metropolis dazzles with its futuristic technology, but its ostentatious wealth and luxury mask the brutal repression of the laboring classes by their rich bosses.

"A dystopian novel written in the late 19th century. The narrative unfolds in a future society marked by the stark juxtaposition of extravagant wealth and abject poverty, highlighting themes of class struggle, the consequences of rampant capitalism, and moral decay." ( Gutenberg.org)

So much can more be said about this figure who played an important role in the political life of the United States in various levels and became controversial and famous as a writer and a researcher. But I guess, one article has limited space for men like him. I suggest you read his books as well as those who were written about him and find your own truth.

In any case, research, my friends, is always the most accurate path to your own peace of mind. One thing leads to another and the nexus is beginning to unfold itself, bit by bit, word by word and mystery by mystery.

Let me know if you liked this article and in the case that you would like to know more about Mr. Donnely or his works I'd be more than happy to help you or discuss the matter with you.

The next article by me, would be totally different. Yes! I'd like to keep you all excited and curious. Curiosity didn't kill the cat. That's the system's fairytale and scarecrow. Curiosity made the cat ruler of humanity ;) I bid you all, a lovely, magical and curious night!
